Shaun Davies (born 1986) is a British Labour Party politician who has been the Member of Parliament for Telford since 2024.[1] He gained the seat from the Conservatives.

Davies was elected in July 2024, winning over 45% of the vote, for his home town of Telford. In his maiden speech on 25th July 2024 he spoke about his early life in poverty, the need for public sector reform and prevention together the need to ensure 'the void' of disconnection is not filled with those who seek to divide us. Davies also spoke powerful about the need for family 'in all shapes and sizes'

Other former MPs for Telford are David Wright (2001-2015) and Bruce Grocott (1997-2001)

Davies was appointed as the PPS to the Leader of the House of Lords in July 2024.


Local government career

Davies held numerous local government roles prior to his election to Parliament. He was elected first to Telford and Wrekin Council in 2011, masterminding the campaign to switch the council from Conservative to Labour. On election he was immediately appointed to the cabinet leading the transformation of the council. In 2016, he became the youngest council leader in the country, aged 30 and led Telford and Wrekin Council until July 2024, becoming the council's longest-serving council leader. During the leadership of the council, the council was recognised with multiple council of the year awards, its children services were rated outstanding twice by OFSTED and adult service recognised as exceptional. The Council Tax rate of the council was also the lowest in the whole of the Midlands and the second lowest in England for its council type. His leadership was praised during external reviews during the pandemic and during a LGA peer review. When Davies became Leader of the Council in 2015, the council was under no over-all-control, this changed within months of Davies election as Leader winning a Conservative seat in a by election. In May 2019, Labour recorded its best ever results on the Council winning 36 seats out of 54, in 2024, despite boundary a further record was set with Labour winning 38 out of 54 seats - Labour best ever result.

He was Leader of Labour in Local Government from 2022 to 2023 and attended the Shadow Cabinet in that role. He became the youngest ever Chair (and Labour first chair in almost a decade) of the Local Government Association in 2023 and became the first ever chair to be elected to the Commons in 2024.

Shaun Davies is married to Elise, is Dad to Owen and step Dad to Evan and Millie. Davies married in 2017.
